ABOUT US:

Serenity Creek Equestrian Center hosts the University of Georgia IHSA Club Equestrian Team. The team is part of the Club Sports Program at UGA and the Intercolliegate Horse Show Association (IHSA). We are part of Zone 5, Region 2 in the IHSA and compete against Berry College, Clemson, USC, USC Aiken, Lander, Georgia Tech, Converse College, Georgia College and State University, North Georgia College, Kennessaw State University, and many more.

About the Team

Equestrian Club Team at UGA competes at Huntseat Equitation through the IHSA, competing all the way through the national level. All levels and disciplines of riding are accepted and no experience is necessary.

All of our members compete in different levels from Walk/Trot to the Open division.  The team is also involved in community equestrian events throughout the Athens area and practices out of a private facility located about 25 minutes from campus.  The team consists of about 25 student athletes that compete in the Hunt Seat division.

HOW IT WORKS:
Typically, we have two to three weekend-long or day shows a semester.  In addition, there are post-season competitions for those that qualify- Regionals, Zones, and Nationals

At the horse shows, the host college provides all horses and tack (although some schools also bring horses and tack).  At the show, one member of the team attends the "draw" where each rider is randomly assigned to a horse drawn from a "hat."  Riders get to watch the horses be warmed up prior to the show. For each class, the riders go striaght in with no warm-up.  Each rider earns individual points, and one member is chosen from each class to earn points for the team. Riders and teams accumulate points throughout the season, and these points go towards qualification for post-season competitions
